How it's done - The Gear
I started my career in the television and film industry as a grip and lighting technician, following a natural progression to video assistant, and finally camera/steadicam operator. And in that 14 year career I have seen two revolutionary tools change the game. The first was the MOVI and the second the ARRI Trinity.
ARRI Artemis Cine/Broadcast
Up to 70lb of Camera Payload and up to 110lb of total payload. This Sled has enough power for even the hungriest of cameras. It can also provide power to up to 4 P-Tap-enabled accessories.
TRINITY is the first hybrid camera stabilizer that combines classic mechanical stabilization with an active electronic gimbal. The camera can be moved from low mode to high mode during a shot. The joystick-controlled, fully stabilized tilt axis allows the operator to look up or down during this motion, so a low angle can smoothly transition into an over-the-shoulder shot.
Walter Klassen Sling Shot
The Sling Shot is a versatile and dynamic support system for handheld and electronic gimbal stabilization systems. At the center of the SlingShot system is a set of elastics suspended from independently controlled telescopic tubes, with tool-free adjustment of upper arm angles and elastic tension to optimally support your camera payload.
Tiffen - Exovest
The Steadicam Fawcett Exovest™ is a semi-rigid exoskeletal vest that transfers the weight and torque of supporting a Steadicam system into anatomically appropriate areas, without interfering with natural movement.
Steadicam - G70X
The very best Iso-Elastic arm in the market, it can carry up to 70lb of total payload with ease. Designed by Garret Brown, the inventor of the Steadicam, this arm and concept have stood the test of time.
Kenyon 6X6 Gyro Stabilizer
Kenyon Labs are the industry leader in developing this technology. The 6X6 gyro is designed to stabilize a camera rig in 3 axes while being small and low profile. The gyro is used on occasions of high wind.
Betz Tools WAVE1
A magnificent tool designed by Christian Betz in Germany, it is capable of maintaining the camera's horizon level at all times. It can be used on a Steadicam, car rig, dolly or sticks.
The Steadicam Volt™ System is a tool that provides Steadicam operators with horizontal stabilization. This keeps the sled in neutral balance: stays level when starting, stopping, and cornering. Maintains level horizon and holds tilt angle.
